A panorama stitched together from several photos overlooking Ballymastocker Strand and the hairpin bends in the road down from the lay by high above. The beach is near Portsalon on the Fanad Peninsula. Hard to believe from the weather in the photo, but I had to wait it out in the car here for half an hour under black skies and heavy hail showers.
The strand was once voted the second most beautiful beach in the world by readers of The Observer Magazine, only being beaten by one in the Seychelles!
Stunning shot, Aidy. Widening it out to include the curvy road makes the scene. Can you easily get between the different sections of beach there?
Cheers Martin. Aye, its no problem getting across and the road runs along the length of it too, not far inland. The drive up that side of Fanad through Rathmullan and Portsalon is great, but its equally good on the western side of the peninsula, with views over Mulroy Bay – worth going up one side and back out on the other. There are some brilliant coastal walks too that you can’t really get to by car. You could spend days on end exploring up there.
Sounds great Aidy (especially the walks), think a roadtrip is required.
Nicely done 👍
Thanks Alastair. The software makes it so easy to do these now, its great to get a scene that suits.
Beautiful panorama of a wonderful-looking beach. Another location for my bucket (and spade) list!
Thanks Jessica. Donegal is amazing for beaches – more than any other Irish county. Its no problem, even in summer, finding one you can have all to yourself!
