We spent a day touring the coast around Bunbeg in Co. Donegal at the end of May last year, and one of the spots we lingered longest at was the beautiful Carrickfinn beach. It is right beside Donegal Airport, but feels more remote than it is due to its huge expanse of open space, and sands stretching into the distance. It was overcast most of the time that day, but it didn’t spoil the scenery, and the sand often took on an almost white colour when the sun went in, which I found added to the atmosphere.
The overcast day led to a subdued palette of colours which I loved in this location, and this is maybe my favourite shot taken there.
Blue sky making an appearance.
It wasn’t just the wide vistas which caught the eye – the rocks at the edge of the beach had some amazing shapes and colours for more intimate, detail shots.
Yet another Donegal gem to visit.
