A relaxing last day of our holiday on Achill Island, spent off the island, in Westport. It was late in the evening, but the long, summer days left plenty of time to wander round the town taking in the sights and window shopping. There is plenty to catch the eye of the photographer in this busy and attractive town.
A wall with glass bottles embedded in it, just the bottoms visible.
A landmark in the town is the high column on the Octagon with a statue of St Patrick on top.
Closer view of the statue.
The Mayo county colours and flag in a pub window.
The town clock tower behind an old style Irish telephone box.
No visit to Westport would be complete without a visit to Matt Molloy’s pub. The famous musician was a member of several influential Irish traditional bands including the Bothy Band, Planxty and The Chieftains.
