While in Dingle, we visited the Oceanworld Aquarium which was a brilliant experience. There was an Amazonian display including piranhas, tropical tanks, a freshwater native tank, and an ocean tunnel. One highlight was the penguin enclosure where the birds could be seen both above and below the water. Reference was made to Tom Crean, who was born and lived in nearby Annascaul, Co. Kerry. Crean went on several expeditions to Antarctica, including Scott’s ill-fated journey to the South Pole, when Crean’s heroism was recognised with a medal. After his adventures he returned to Annascaul to open the South Pole Inn.
Other highlights were the massive 150 000 gallon shark tank with huge sand tiger sharks, and the loggerhead turtle.
I took too many photos to include, but whittled it down to a small selection here.
I’ve been in two other aquariums in Ireland in Lahinch Co. Clare and Bray Co. Wicklow, both excellent too, but this is definitely the pick of the bunch.
Wow! You’ve done well there. It all looks so very beautiful and exciting. The colours are wonderful. Some of the creatures I have never seen before – like the anemones. Obviously an excellent aquarium.
Definitely the best one I’ve been to in Ireland Jessica.
