The Flight Of The Earls Sculpture.
Continuing from my last post on Rathmullan beach, this set was taken around the seafront and pier.
One of the most famous episodes in Irish history is the Flight of the Earls, when the last of the Gaelic lords in Ulster departed for Europe. It was Rathmullan that they set sail from, and the event is commemorated by a striking bronze sculpture by John Behan.
Old military fort overlooking the beach.
The other main item of interest for me was the pier.
Aside from the shots above, it also gave opportunities for detail shots of the ropes, nets and old rusty chains associated with the boats using the pier.
Like the rope images…and most unusual and effective sculpture. MM 🍀
Thanks John. It is a very evocative sculpture, even more so in reality.
